Previous interns and their experiences with ALLINTERNS

Intern:

Lorenzo Martopawiro
International Business & Management Studies
Rotterdam Business School, The Netherlands

Type of company/ industry:

Stufftodo.co.za, a company that operates an online business and focuses on advertising & promoting the cape social. Stufftodo also develops marketing campaigns and offers marketing services. Company personnel can be contacted by using a mobile phone, emails, and other means of communication.

What you thought about their internship:

When I came here first I had to get used to the daily routine of getting up early and working 8 hours a day. Luckily my work load at the Stufftodo office was gradually built up. They gave me enough time to get to know the company as well as their business operations and activities. My first responsibility was to maintain the website’s content. After that I accepted several different and challenging online and traditional marketing projects such as developing and carrying out promotion plans and experimenting with different kind of web marketing tactics and strategies. I was even given the opportunity to organize a special event! Along with some bunch of crazy colleagues I can say that this was one hectic internship experience!

What you thought about Allinterns:

Allinterns offered me an internship and a place to stay in very short period of time. I had a lot of questions and the Allinterns staff helped me out in very professional manner. Their informal approach and attitude makes you think you’re communicating with one of your friends. Allinterns also arranged some very cool trips! I surely recommend all new interns to participate in group events.

What you thought about Cape Town, South Africa:

Cape Town is an amazing city! As soon as you find your way you will be sucked up into the chilled, social and even active Captonian life. With so many cool clubs and beach bars it will even feel like you’re on holiday! I’ve also been travelling through Nambia which was wonderful experience. Furthermore I did some crazy and amazing stuff such as quad biking, ostrich riding, surfing and sky diving!

What would you like to say to students thinking about coming to Cape Town:

You will definitely have one of the most exciting periods in your life here! Not only Cape Town but South Africa as a whole has a lot to offer. You will meet a lot of new people and make friends easily and quickly with other interns. Live your life to the max and remember that winners have nothing to loose!

Intern:
  Marielle Vastenhoud
Type of company/ industry:
  Tourism related company
What you thought about their internship:

I like my internship. It is a company who works very hard, but on the other side very relaxed. They take the time to explain all the things you have to know and take care of work for you. If you want or have to do something else they help you to find other jobs.
What you thought about Allinterns:

Allinterns is a good way to find a practical training overseas. They ask you what you are looking for, what you really want to do and in which sector. In less than two weeks i had a training place. They also arrange a place to stay for you, and nice things to do during you’re stay.  So if you really want to come to South- Africa (what you really really have to do) don’t hesitate to contact Allinterns!
What you thought about Cape Town, South Africa:

Intern:
  Arne Woudstra
Type of company/ industry:
  Tourism Company
What you thought about their internship:

The internship was great. At first I had to learn a lot about their operations and how online-marketing works, but in the end I was teaching my boss things about online marketing. It was a great learning experience, and I had a great time working there. With all my crazy colleagues!
What you thought about Allinterns:

What can you say about Allinterns... well I can say that Allinterns is just a warm cuddly bear. All the parties and activities they arranged were great as well, and it’s just cool to know you got someone you can call when you need something.
What you thought about Cape Town, South Africa:

Cape Town is an awesome city! What is not to like... the beach, the nightlife, the models! It is a beautiful and diverse city with great people as well.
What would you like to say to students thinking about coming to Cape Town:

Cape Town is so diverse, and offers so much. I can only say that I had a great time here and if you are open for it, Cape Town will give you the best time of your life!

Intern:

Michiel van den Brink
Type of company/ industry:

Law firm
What you thought about their internship:

I had a great time at it. The firm where I did my internship was small but they managed to keep me busy with interesting assignments and they did their best to take me to meetings and court as much as possible. That way I'm got to see and know a lot more about South African society than I would have just as a tourist.
What you thought about Allinterns:

I doubt I could have found an internship in Cape Town without Allinterns. The service you have provided was excellent, although it proved hard to find an internship at a law firm I never felt like it was not going to happen.
What you thought about Cape Town, South Africa:

Cape Town is great! There are great beaches, places to eat, drink and see and it's all dirt cheap too!
What would you like to say to students thinking about coming to Cape Town:

Cape Town is really worth staying in a while and to combine it with an internship gives you the chance to enjoy Cape Town to the fullest while still doing something useful and getting working experience. The best idea would be to add some vacation time to it so you can see the rest of South Africa!

Intern:

John de Hoop
I study Commercial Economics
Type of company/ industry:

www.tristar.co.za and www.stufftodo.co.za. Both are companies that mainly work online.

Tristar is a Web Host and Web Design Company, stufftodo is a site on which everything that is going on in and around Cape Town is on. Stufftodo is the main website I work for. This site is basically a online advertising space for all the clubs, restaurants, entertainment and activity companies that are based in Cape Town and surroundings. Next to the website Stufftodo is also an event company. This company gave me the opportunity to get to know Cape Town very quick. Also it inspired me to do a lot of stuff in a short period of time because there is so much to do.

What you thought about their internship:

First things first I was nervous and anxious to go to South Africa and work there. After being introduced in the company it took me a little while to getting used to the idea that I was actually in South Africa and also I was going to work 8 hours a day, which, being a Dutch student, we aren’t used to. The internship itself turned out to be cool. First I had the responsibility of updating stufftodo and as time is passing I am receiving the coolest assignments. Right now I am even becoming an event manager.
What you thought about Allinterns:

A company that gives you a hectic yet comfortable ride through Cape Town. They really informed me about everything, arranged me descent accommodation in one of the most colourful neighbourhoods of Cape Town with the City Centre just down the street! And the Table Mountain as my bedroom view! Next to accommodation and a good internship we also are doing the most amazing things with the Allinterns crew and the students. E.g.: go-karting, wine tasting, sand boarding, Paintball, soon to be added, cliff diving, Bungee jumping and probably a lot more to come during the rest of my stay here.
What you thought about Cape Town, South Africa:

Busy and bubbling! Cape Town is a great city to live in, as long as you are familiar with the bad neighbourhoods, which you get to know from Allinterns. Also, always keep an eye on your stuff. But hey, you also have to do that in London and Amsterdam right? Next to these safety hazards I must say, CAPE TOWN RULEZ!

With famous beaches like Camps Bay and Clifton 1, 2, 3 and 4, with clubs like Ignite, Opium and Hemisphere, you can’t say you are not enjoying yourself. Opium is even a hide out for several local and international celebrities.

What would you like to say to students thinking about coming to Cape Town:

Dear students who are twisting their minds right now,

Don’t worry about the money, you only live once and you don’t want to miss out this opportunity.

Don’t worry about coming over alone; Allinterns knows a lot of people down here, as well as the students. You will meet the kindest people who are all in the same position of being on their own in Cape Town and you’d be surprised on how much everybody can get along. And how fast you’ll meet tons of people.

Don't worry about the long time you will be away from friends and family, you'll meet a lot of friends over here and you'll find that time goes by too fast.

So, basically if you were worried at all to start with, no worries! Just Come! And enjoy Cape Town!

What you thought about their internship:

Allinterns offered me 3 possible internships i could choose from. Good thing they gave me some options and I think I made a good decision about the company. Work is interesting and I have very nice colleagues.
What you thought about Allinterns:

Never heard of them before I found them on the Internet a few months before I went to Cape Town. But everything is perfectly arranged and I didn't have any bad experiences with them before and during my time in Cape Town.
What you thought about Cape Town, South Africa:

Cape Town and whole South Africa rules. Only look out for the 'dodgy' people on the streets...
What would you like to say to students thinking about coming to Cape Town:

Spend the weekends to the max, travel as much as possible and again look out for the dodgy people (start to sound like my mother now :s)
